Pirelli – moving the world
Since 1872, when Giovanni Battista Pirelli founded a business manufacturing miscellaneous products from vulcanised rubber, Pirelli has united pioneering spirit, innovation and masterful product excellence. The year 2022 is a special milestone in the history of the company, marking the 150th anniversary of its founding. The brand that would make the name Pirelli famous throughout the world took its first important steps 150 years ago with telegraph cables and power lines before moving into tyres. The success of the tyre venture meant that the history of the Pirelli company is closely tied to the history of the modern automobile. Many legendary cars from the early 20th century were fitted with ‘Ercole’, the first car tyres produced by Pirelli. Today, cutting-edge technology, high-end production excellence and passion for innovation remain the main guiding principles for Pirelli and the deciding factors for success on streets and race tracks around the world. As proof of this, Pirelli has been the exclusive tyre supplier to the FIA Formula One Championship™ since 2011.
The Meisterstück Great Masters Pirelli Limited Edition 72 merges the art of writing with the art of making tyres. The collection celebrates the know-how of the Pirelli craftsmen, “sgorbiatori”, who meticulously hand-carve tyre patterns; taking days to create just a single prototype.
In reference to the craftsmanship of the sgorbiatori and the material upon which the fame of the Pirelli brand rests, the black rubber surfaceshowing through the Au 750 solid white gold skeletonised overlay contains particles of original Pirelli racing tyres with real track history. A historic graphic treatment of the Pirelli logo and its P lunga inspired the overlay’s pattern, which is continued as an engraving on the forepart, while the official logo celebrating the 150-year anniversary of the brand is engraved on the handcrafted Au 750 solid white gold nib. Another tribute to the iconic design of the Pirelli brand is the red colour used for the ink feeder. Red is further incorporated into the edition’s design with narrow red rings that add a dynamic accent to the Au 750 solid white gold cone and cap top. The Pirelli-inspired colour scheme continues in a transparent, red ink window on the barrel allowing a glimpse inside the writing instrument. The fittings are made of Au 750 solid white gold and the Montblanc emblem shimmering in mother-of-pearl crowns the cap top.
